{"id":72,"date":"2012-11-28T11:10:28","date_gmt":"2012-11-28T16:10:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nccomputertech.wordpress.com\/?p=72"},"modified":"2012-11-28T11:10:28","modified_gmt":"2012-11-28T16:10:28","slug":"fedora-18-finally-makes-beta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nccomputertech.com\/techtalk\/2012\/11\/28\/fedora-18-finally-makes-beta\/","title":{"rendered":"Fedora 18 finally makes beta"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcworld.com\/article\/2017191\/fedora-18-finally-makes-beta.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/nccomputertech.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/11\/fedora-100014842-large.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After a number of delays, the beta of the Fedora 18 Linux-based distribution has been released.<br \/>\nThe beta release date had been extended six times over the past two months, mostly due to an underestimation of the amount of work required to rewrite the Anaconda software, which is used to install or upgrade Fedora.<br \/>\n\u201cIt was a one-time aberration,\u201d said Robyn Bergeron, who leads the Fedora Project.<br \/>\nThe final release of Fedora 18, which was named code-named \u201cSpherical Cow,\u201d is now set for Jan. 8, 2013, almost two months after the original ship date, and about seven months after the release of Fedora 17.<br \/>\nGiven the sensitive nature of Anaconda, to install a new OS on a machine while keeping all the user\u2019s data intact, the Fedora team wanted to make sure everything worked correctly, Bergeron said.<br \/>\n\u201cIt was important to get it right,\u201d she said. \u201cOnce you start heading down that road, backing out is not really an option.\u201d<br \/>\nThe new Anaconda addresses a wider range of potential users by streamlining the installation process and offering more helpful error messages.
