ARM has announced its purchase of a lesser known graphics company called Geomerics. While the company itself may not be as renown, its global illumination engine, Enlighten, has been used to create photo realistic lighting environments in major triple A game releases like Battlefield 4 and Need for Speed: The Run.<\/p>\n

At this point, ARM is yet to divulge exactly what it will do with Geomerics and its technology beyond saying that “it’ll help bring the next generation of graphics experiences to mobile platforms.”<\/p>\n

As some have suggested, this could mean that Geomerics could be lending a hand with graphics performance on ARM’s Mali GPU or just to help tweak the chips for better mobile gaming performance overall.<\/p>\n

Whatever Geomerics will end up doing for ARM it looks as though the company will also continue on its current path. ARM has said that it will allow Geomerics to run independently and continue its current business relationships with companies like EA.<\/p>\n

The particular terms of the deal between ARM and Geomerics have not been disclosed at this time.<\/p>\n

“The innovative technologies being developed by Geomerics are already revolutionizing the console gaming experience and are set to rapidly accelerate the transition to photo realistic graphics in mobile,” Pete Hutton from the EVP and GM Media Processing Division at ARM said.<\/p>\n
