Windows Phone looks to finally be making some serious progress, while BlackBerry struggles and continues to lose market share.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the specific order I rank phones in a few times a year, tt seems readers appreciate my numbered lists with five of these types of posts making it in my top 10 most viewed posts of the year.<\/p>\n<h3>Most viewed articles of 2013<\/h3>\n<p>My Apple iPhone articles usually have a high number of views, but it is interesting to see that Android, in particular HTC articles, did very well in 2013. I am a huge fan of HTC&#8217;s products, especially the One, and despite their financial struggles readers still seem to enjoy the articles I write about their products. HTC One, BlackBerry Z10, iPhone 5, Lumia 920, and Note II<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/google-nexus-5-first-take-latest-specs-and-android-os-at-a-low-price-7000022769\/\" target=\"_blank\">Google Nexus 5, first take: Latest specs and Android OS at a low price<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/the-htc-one-is-the-best-smartphone-i-have-ever-used-review-7000012793\/\" target=\"_blank\">The HTC One is the best smartphone I have ever used (review)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/samsung-galaxy-s4-hands-on-some-gimmicks-are-useful-others-are-just-silly-7000014913\/\" target=\"_blank\">Samsung Galaxy S4 hands-on: Some gimmicks are useful, others are just silly<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/top-10-smartphones-for-the-2013-holiday-season-7000023044\/\" target=\"_blank\">Top 10 smartphones for the 2013 holiday season<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Best of 2013<\/h3>\n<p>I have a few titles I would like to award to the devices, accessories, and software I checked out in 2013.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Best overall smartphone of the year<\/strong>: I just posted my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/top-10-smartphones-of-2013-theres-one-thats-best-7000024169\/\" target=\"_blank\">Top 10 smartphones of 2013<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/the-htc-one-is-the-best-smartphone-i-have-ever-used-review-7000012793\/\">HTC One<\/a> took the title since it stayed in my pocket for nearly the entire year.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best display<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/samsung-galaxy-note-3-review-worlds-most-capable-android-smartphone-gets-even-better-7000021366\/\" target=\"_blank\">Samsung Galaxy Note 3<\/a> (There&#8217;s just something about the eye-popping colors of Samsung&#8217;s OLED technology.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Device that surprised me<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/custom-moto-x-has-improved-hardware-and-appealing-looks-7000020089\/\" target=\"_blank\">Moto X<\/a> (The customization options and Moto special touches make this one of my favorite phones ever.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best Windows Phone device of the year<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/at-and-t-nokia-lumia-1020-review-the-best-windows-phone-ever-made-7000019085\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nokia Lumia 1020<\/a> (It&#8217;s not the newest, but it&#8217;s still the best that was offered up this year.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best Android smartphone of the year:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/top-10-smartphones-of-2013-theres-one-thats-best-7000024169\/\" target=\"_blank\">HTC One<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Best iOS device of the year<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/apple-iphone-5s-review-the-best-gets-better-7000023092\/\" target=\"_blank\">Apple iPhone 5s<\/a> (Obvious selection here, but Apple&#8217;s TouchID and improved camera are still great to see.)<\/li>\n<li><strong><strong>Best mobile operating system of the year<\/strong><\/strong>: Android Kit Kat (Google continues to improve and offers an OS for the tweaker and standard consumer.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Least favorite phone I reviewed<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/htc-one-max-review-lack-of-innovation-and-attention-to-detail-7000023296\/\" target=\"_blank\">HTC One Max<\/a> (We don&#8217;t need a large phone for the sake of size, especially when quality is compromised.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Favorite smartphone application<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shiftyjelly.com\/pocketcasts\" target=\"_blank\">Pocket Casts<\/a> (Outstanding podcatcher that syncs across iOS and Android platforms.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Favorite smartphone service<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/flipboard.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Flipboard<\/a> (Another cross platform offering that now even works on Windows 8.1 and soon coming to Windows Phone.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Looking ahead to 2014<\/h3>\n<p>As we end 2013 and look to 2014, I look at my current active collection of the Nokia Lumia 1020, Lumia 925, custom Moto X, HTC One, and Apple iPhone 5s and acknowledge that I am quite happy with the state of mobile.<\/p>\n<p>I know we will see continued evolution in the smartphone space in 2014 and have the following questions that I will be looking to answer:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Will Windows Phone 8 continue to gain market share?<\/li>\n<li>What&#8217;s going to happen when Microsoft owns Nokia&#8217;s smartphone division?<\/li>\n<li>What will Apple bring with iOS 8 and the iPhone 6?<\/li>\n<li>What will BlackBerry look like in 2014 and will we see anymore BB 10 devices?<\/li>\n<li>What&#8217;s coming next to Android?<\/li>\n<li>Will the HTC One II (or Two) be as great as the One?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What was your favorite smartphone of the year? How about your worst?
