The first version supported Windows 7 but later updates added support for Windows XP and Vista. However, it’s looking like Facebook might have quietly dropped support for the Windows desktop Messenger app.

A few days ago, Facebook updated its Messenger stand alone apps for iOS and Android with a new user interface as well as some other new features. However, the company also updated its official Messenger page as well this week but now it only offers download links to the iOS and Android stores, with no link available for the Windows desktop app.

Facebook still offers a Messenger for Windows help page but it only links to the revamped Messenger download site which, as we stated, now concentrates just on the revamped iOS and Android apps. We have emailed Facebook’s PR reps to find out if the Windows Messenger app is no longer being supported or updated.

A month ago, Facebook launched its long awaited Windows 8.1 app, and it has since released several updates to that app adding a number of new features. It\\’s possible that the company could also be working on a stand alone Messenger app for the Modern UI of Windows 8.1 as well.

via Did Facebook quietly stop offering its Windows Messenger desktop app? – Neowin.

In March 2012, Facebook released a stand alone Messenger app for Windows desktop users.
