Windows 8 continued to gain market share at a snail’s pace among PC operating systems in March 2013, according to the just updated numbers from Net Applications. The research firm’s website shows that worldwide, Windows 8 was installed on 3.31 percent of all PCs last month.
\nThose new numbers are still an improvement from February’s results where Windows 8 had 2.79 percent of the PC OS market share. Net Applications breaks down Windows 8 in three parts; Windows 8 at 3.17 percent, Windows 8 Touch at 0.12 percent and Windows RT Touch at 0.02 percent.
\nWindows 7 is still the most popular PC OS in the world, and Net Applications shows that it is actually gaining market share even with the availability of Windows 8. According to the Net Applications’s numbers, Windows 7 was installed in 44.77 percent of all PCs in March, a gain from 44.55 percent in February and from 44.48 percent in January.
\nWindows XP continues its decline worldwide. Net Applications shows it was working inside 38.73 percent of all PCs in March, down from 38.99 percent in February and from 39.51 in January. Microsoft will officially end support for Windows XP just over a year from now. Windows Vista is also still sliding; it had 4.99 percent in March down from 5.17 percent in February and from 5.24 in January.
