\nThe new drives are equipped with Seagate’s SSHD technology, which automatically moves frequently accessed data to the flash-memory portion to optimize performance. The company says that the new laptop SSHDs are up to five times faster than a regular 5,400rpm laptop drive and offers a boot time of just 10 seconds with Windows 8. The desktop SSHDs are said to offer four times the performance of a regular HDD.
\nThe SSHD series is available now priced at $79 and $99 for the 500GB and 1TB laptop models, respectively, while the desktop units will set you back $99 and $149 for 1TB and 2TB. Although it wasn\u2019t ready to share specifics, Seagate said it could launch higher performance models in the future with up to 32GB of NAND.
\nThe new SSHD lineup represents Seagate\u2019s third generation of laptop hybrid drives and its first for desktops.
